This collection of fragments is based on the epic poem The Iliad, commonly referred to as ¡®that long thing that Homer guy wrote¡¯. Of course, this description is ambiguous in that it could also describe The Odyssey fairly accurately, so sometimes people call it ¡®that long thing that the Homer guy wrote that¡¯s not the Odyssey¡¯.

It is mostly told from the viewpoint of Cassandra, a Trojan princess, a disheveled seer, and an eventual POW. Mythological allusions are liable to ambush you without warning, so have a Dictionary of Mythology or an internet connection ready.

But then again, the trick is not to pore over the contents and scrutinize every suspicious word¡ªjust let go and read on. The whole book should be taken at a blow, a single impact. What¡¯s important isn¡¯t what it all seems like, or even what it sounds like. It¡¯s what it feels like. There is no plot. Even if you do manage to find one, what happens doesn¡¯t matter. What it feels like matters.
